Transfer 9 week 5
Well.... Pues....

This week has been really bomb. We have found lots of super cool people and then we saw some weird, but cool stuff.

To be honest this week has been really great but I don't have a clue what to write about.

Well I guess that I will just start from the beginning.

Well on Monday we ate with our friend Iris. She is cool and Spanish. She has a crazy family. We went there and she made us some really good ropa vieja which is kind of like a just meat and garbanzo beans. So... people here love garbanzo beans. We also ate gofio in 4 forms. Then we just chilled and wrote and ate some sandwiches and then headed out. Then we got a call from this random but named Clifford who said that he wanted us to come and teach him in his house. So we got his address and realized that it is that same address of a reference that we got from some members the week before so logically I assumed that the members had called him or something. But then I ask Clifford if he knows the members and he said no. Not to mention that the reference that we got from the members was for a girl named Lillian who hadn't lived there for 6 months. So that was cool. Then we went and taught our member friend Vanessa some English and ate some really good nuts from this chuche store.

Okay the other big thing to happen this week is our friend Kalman! So I know that I have talked about him before but he is this super great guy from Hungary who speaks English. So we have met with him a ton lately and he is progressing really well. He came to church last Sunday, and he has a baptismal date for the 9th, or September! So we have been able to teach him the restoration, the plan or salvation, gospel of Jesus Christ, and the word or wisdom! He loves all of it! We went and played basketball with him and some members and introduced him to Luis! Our recent convert! He is the best thing ever, and really helped him open up and stuff. Then Luis helped us with a lesson, and it went awesome!

So this week we found lots of awesome people. Lots of African people. We met these two awesome guys from.... Africa! One from Sierra Leon, who was named mustafa... like from the Lion king? It was pretty funny. He has never heard of the movie, but he was pumped to see it. Then right after that we met this guy from editorial new guinea, and his name is celestino! He is actually really cool. He was really interested so we met and taught him a little bit! Then we met this who super cute family from Nigeria, who were super interested. Then as we were walking, we met this 3 guys from Ghana, who were named Dee, Francis, and Peter. It was super cool to talk with them in English. So we are really excited to baptize the first Africa person in our ward. As we were there talking to all of these black people we ran into an antichrist, and then a a devout Catholic that doesn't believe in God.  So that was fun, but not out of the norm... We also are teaching this super cool lady named Mari pino who is Spanish and really nice. So she has this dog named jimmy...  The last time I visited them Jimmy peed on me so I was a little salty still the second time I went, but I was on the defensive and I bit his ear, and then he submitted to me. Oh jimmy...

Then in our free time, we had lots of talks about feeling, which I'm normally not into but it was good, and then we also ate a lot of popcorn.

I have been thinking a lot about a quote that I read.

"You cannot be too good. Patience is heavenly, obedience is noble, forgiveness is merciful, and exaltation is godly; and he that holds out faithful to the end shall in no wise lose his reward. A good man will endure all things to honor Christ, and even dispose of the whole world, and all in it, to save his soul" (Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Smith, p. 356).

You truly can never be too good. There are always things to change and do and become. That is the beauty of life; that you can always become better than you currently are. Now even though that may seem overwhelming, just remember that, for that reason we came. We came to this earth at this time to become who God knew that we could be. So even though it seems hard, and at times impossible, he wants you to succeed, and has given you all the tools and instructions that you need to accomplish it!

Psalms 27: 14

14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

Transfer 9 Week 4

Oh man.. esta semana ha sido una locura! Estábamos por todos los lados, buscando y enseñando y echando siestas? Just kidding... No but seriously this week has been crazy! We have see so many MIRACLES as always and have seen so many awesome blessings.

So a few things that happened. So on monday night we were feeling a little bit down. We have worked so hard toward our goal of one baptism. So hard! So we were going over our weekly planning and looking at all of our friends, when we realized that of all of the people that we were teaching, none of them could get baptized this transfer for a  lot of diffrent reasons. It was a little bit disheartening (learned what that meant 2 days ago) but we didn't lose our faith. So that night as we were laying in bed, right before praying and all that, we got a call from the elders from fuerteventura. They called us and gave us this amazing reference of this lady who was investaging the church back in Madrid and then moved and lost contact, and then got the elders number and started to tell them that she really wanted to be baptized and become a member of the church! Can you believe that? And the best part is that she lives in Las Palmas, like 10 minutes from us! Miracles! Crazy so we are going to meet with her this week some time and then baptize her!!!

Then we met with our friend Iris, and felt very strongly that we needed to meet with her whole family and her husband for her to be able to progress so we told her that, and she then invited us to come over for a lunch to introduce ourselves and then to share a message with them all. So I take that as 2 miracles. Food, and baptism. So what more can you ask for!

Then.... Well. This last week we have been starving because we were waiting on reimbursements, and on my companions mission card (still waiting on that) so we couldn't but GROCERIES until Wednesday during lunch. But we did buy some groceries, but somehow forgot to buy water. Yeah I don't know. I think we weren't in our right minds due to dehydration. So... So on Thursday after the noche de hogar, as we were waiting for the bus to go home, we only had 8 minutes to run to the grocery store and buy water and then return in time to catch the bus. A daunting task a least. But with all of the courage we could must, we took off in a sprint for Hiper-Dino, to buy 3, 8l jugs of water. And 2 oranges. (If any of you know me, you know that I hate oranges not because of the taste, but the stickiness, so the oranges were because of my companion.) As we booked it and found the water, we swept it off the shelf and ran for the register. As we got inline no one could stop us. So as we place our water down on the register, this old lady comes up behind us and starts saying that she had put her cart there, and so then in the most passive aggressive way possible we tried to move to another register. But then she felt bad and let us stay. After all of that, we speed walked to the bus stop with one minute to spare. Blessings! Then we had water.

So after that we had zone conference which was amazing as usual. We talked mostly about setting goal and making plans to acheive them. So that was informative and useful. I am definitely trying to set better, more realistic goals, and then make detailed realistic plans to achieve them. I have high hopes that thighs will go according to plan... (See what I did there?)

Then we had the Piso Tour! Our mission president and his family came to our piso, and we talked for a little while and they checked our piso to make sure that we had everything that we needed and to make sure it was clean. It was. We got a celestial piso! And chocolate. Then we had our interviews with president, which as always we great. With him I TALKED about his Spanish and what he does to make it so great, because he speaks like someone from Chile. It's amazing, because he doesn't have the least bit of accent! So we talked about it. Pretty cool. Then we went and ate lunch at this place called Big 7. Yeah so, not much more to say there.

So SundaySunday was the best day ever! So we had invited our friend Carmen (the Hungarian man) to come to church. So we called him Sunday morning, and I had faith that he would answer his phone and then he did! So not only that, but then we we got to church, he was there waiting  for us! So I translated for him for all of church which is really tiring, and hard, but fun. I think that he really enjoyed it and felt the spirit really strong. So we will meet with him soon and help him to prepare to be baptized!

There are so many other amazing miracles and funny stuff, but my hands are tired so I just want to share a cool story with y'all!

In January, an earthquake in the central mountainous region of Colombia struck the city of Armenia. The stake presidents, concerned, called the Area Presidency in Quito to find out the needs of members living in Armenia. The district president confirmed that many members of the Church had lost their homes and sought refuge in four chapels that had not been damaged but in urgent need of food and clothing. Relief Society and priesthood leaders set to work, and donations from members of the entire country were received in a designated chapel in each city. Little Neidi, seven years old, had gone with her parents to the chapel of Cali and watched while Bishop Villarreal received donations from the members. "Bishop, how can I help the children of Armenia?" "Neidi, your parents have already helped." She went to the other end of the chapel and noticed that there were not many clothes or shoes for children. She returned to the Bishop's side with Her shoes in Her hand. "Now I know how I can help. Please give these shoes to a girl from Armenia who has lost her own. " And with her bare feet she walked away in silence.

Love y'all bunches and bunches! I hope that yap, have great weeks and that you always remember to smile and show people your love for them! Much love from the Canaries!!!

Well... This week has been money. Literal money. Like gold bars.

We worked so hard, and got to the Piso just exhausted, every night. Literally have never fallen asleep so quickly before in my life. To start the week out we went to do cookie runs, and on the way there we found like 3 new investigators. The first time I ever talked to somebody on scaffolding. He wasn't interested. But we found lots of cool gente (people). We gave away some cookies, and saved some souls.

Then we had district meeting, and it was lit. We talked about finding people and helping the lost sheep come back into the fold and stuff like that. I really felt the spirit. I mean I always feel the spirit, but I talked about the restoration of the gospel, and I learned a lot as I studied it and it was just that much better. My companions brother entered the MTC in Provo. He is going to the California, Redlands mission. So we made a really funny video that I will try to attach about basically how the typical mission morning is. It's pretty good. Also my companion, hermana Storheim hit 6 months so we're going to burn a skirt or something for her. That should be dangerous.

SO I wanted to tell y'all some MIRACLES that we saw this week. The first one is this:

So it was the first of the month, so we went to a place called San telmo to fill up our bus card for the month. San telmo is in Las palmas which is about a 45 minute bus ride. So on the way down, I was sitting next to this lady on the phone. I was going to talk to her because I could tell from her accent that she was from Argentina! So I was pumped to talk to her. So I started to pray for her to get off the phone, so that I could talk to her. It didn't work, but all of the sudden I felt impressed to move seats, and to sit by this big black man like 3 rows in front of me. My first thought was, " he already saw me, that's awkward and I don't want him to think that I am flirting with him." But I felt impressed again to move, so then I did and we started talking and it turns out that he was an old investigator of the elders, and had been to church a few times, but wasn't really interested. His name was Alexander. So after we had a nice chat and stuff, the bus stopped and we got off, and filled up our bus cards. Then, like normal we went the wrong way looking for a bus stop and ended up on the wrong side. We walked put into this big beautiful park, and saw some live music. Well, I say live music but it was this wired little band of anime kids playing some funky instruments, so we were mesmerized for a good 5 minutes and then turned around and headed back for the other side. This whole day we had been fasting and praying to find new people to teach, who could be ready to baptize this transfer. So as he were walking back, my companion asked," wait, why are we fasting again?" I told her that we were fasting for new investigators, and as I said that... A man stopped us, and  asked if we spoke English. His name is Carmen. He is from Hungary, and has taken all of the lessons and wanted to get baptized but wasn't able to because he had to go back to his country. So we talked with him, and taught him a bit. He is awesome.

So I thought it was cool because I don't think that we would have found Carmen, had we not talked with Alexander. Even though Alexander wasn't really interested, I think that the Lord was testing us to see if we would do what he asked, and because we did it, he blessed with someone who is truly, truly prepared for the gospel, and prepared to change his life! Sups cool.

But this week I was thinking a lot about how the Lord qualify us when he calls us. That means that if the Lord asks us to do something, that he will give us the strength, power, or miracles to achieve it. He wants us to do his will, but we must trust that he will help us do what he requires of us.

So my grandma sent me this really cool story that I think really shows this fact. It's cool. Read it....

One morning we thought we would go and gather gooseberries. Father Tanner, as we famialary called the good, patriarchal elder, Nathan Tanner, harnessed a span of horses to a light wagon and, with two sister by the name of Lyman, his little granddaughter and me, started out. When we reached the woods, we told the old gentleman to go to a house in sight and rest himself while we picked the berries. It was not long before the little girl and I strayed some distance from the rest, when suddenly we heard shouts. The little girl thought it was her grandfather and was about to answer, but I restrained her, thinking it might be Indians. We walked forward until in sight of Father Tanner, when we saw he was running his team around. We thought nothing strange at first, but as we approached we saw Indians gathering around the wagon, whooping and yelling as others came and joined them.We got into the wagon to start when four of the Indians took hold of the wagon wheels to stop the wagon, and two others held the horses by the bits, and another came to take me out of the wagon. I then began to be afraid as well as vexed, and asked Tanner to let me get out of the wagon and run for assistance. He said, “No poor child; its too late”. I told him they should not take me alive. His face was as white as a sheet. The Indians had commenced to strip him—had taken his watch and
handkerchief—and while stripping him, were trying to pull me out of the wagon. I began silently to appeal to my Heavenly Father. While I was praying and struggling, the spirit of the Almighty fell upon me and I rose with great power; and no tongue can tell my feelings. I was happy as I could be. A few moments before I saw worse than death staring me in the face, and now my hand was raised by the power of God and I talked to those Indians intheir own language. They let go the horses and wagon, and all stood in front of me while I talked to them by the power of God. They bowed their heads and
answered, “Yes”, in a way that made me know what the meant. And the little girl and Father Tanner looked on in speechless amazement. I realized our situation; their calculation was to kill Father Tanner, burn the wagon, and take us women prisoners. This was plainly shown me.When I stopped talking, they shook hands with all three of us and returned all they had taken from Father Tanner, who gave them back the handkerchief and I gave them berries and crackers. By this time, the other two women came up, and we hastened home.
The Lord gave me a portion of the interpretation of what I had said, which was
as follows:

“I suppose you Indian warriors think you are going to kill us? Don’t you know the Great Spirit is watching you and knows everything in your heart? We have come out here to gather some of our Father’s fruit. We have not come to injure you; and if you harm us, or injure one hair of our heads, the Great Spirit shall smite you to the earth, and you shall not have power to breathe another breath. We have been driven from our homes, and so have you; we have come out here to do good, and not to injure you. We are the Lord’s people and so are you; but you must cease your murders and wickedness; the Lord is displeased with it and will not prosper you if you continue in it. You think you own all this land, this timber, this water, all the horses. Why, you do not own one thing on earth, not even the air you breathe—it all belongs to the Great Spirit.”

Super cool... Well I know that we surely can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Love y'all! Hope that you all have great weeks and all know that I love you tons!

Transfer 9 Week 3
Gran Canaria
Hermana Storheim

Hello!

This week has been really good. I know that I always say that but it's almost always the truth. To be honest, I think that the most stressful time of my week is always trying to remember all of the stuff that we did to tell y'all. I should really be better about remembering, but bad memory runs in the fam.

Okay so 2 weeks ago we found this awesome family thru some members. The moms name is mariza and her husband is Javier. They have 2 little girls 10 and 4. They are awesome. So we have been teaching the mom and daughters because the dad works interna, which means he lives in someone's house and takes care of them. So he is only at home on Saturdays and Sundays mornings.  So we have been teaching them and the mom really wants to get baptized and knew that the church was true from the very first moment. She loved the Jose Smith story and as we were telling her it the spirit truly spoke to her heart that it was true. Awesome right! So then she told us that she felt bad because she wanted to follow god and do all that he wanted her to do but she was living with her husband, without being married. So we were like, " well what's stopping you from getting married?"  She is like, "Nothing." So we invited her to talk with her husband, so that they can get married and then get baptized. She is so pumped. So then we have taught her a few other times, but she told us that she is going on vacation for 2 and 1/2 weeks to the south of the island, and she is going to talk to their husband then about all of the baptism, marriage thing. So we won't be able to meet with her until September, but in September we will be able to meet with the whole family and teach all of them which is way better! So I see white with them.

Then we are just teaching lots on new people. The thing with missionary work though is that we can't just find new people, but we have to work with less active memebrs, and with active members. So this next week is to really find a good balance between all of it so that we can find our stride I guess.

Then we had district meeting. It was cash money like always. We talked a lot about a talk called following Christ to victory. You should all read it because it's awesome!

Just a few things that I really liked from it:

Then, in my estimation, the Master’s great success formula for bringing to pass the immortality and eternal life of man is

First, believe you can do it. The Master said, For this cause came I into the world: “to give his life [as] a ransom for many” (Matt. 20:28).

Second, look to the Lord for your blessings. Again, the Master said, “And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was” (John 17:5).

Third, make the sacrifice. The Lord’s words: “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep” (John 10:11).

Fourth, expect a miracle. The Lord said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live” (John 5:25).

And fifth, receive the miracle with great humility. “Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do” (John 5:19). And “Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me” (John 7:16).

We have tried to out the formula into practice and man, does it work. I feel like I have been doing it my whole mission I just whenever realized that it was a "formula."  Did you like how I said that you should read it and then I put it in here. Hahaha, no choice...

Oh man, I totally spaced, but we had intercambios with the viciendario hermanas. I was with hermana liddicott who is from England! We tore up viciendario, and taught a ton of people. I had so much fun and learned a a lot. She is truly an amazing teacher. One day. One day...

Also this week has been one filled with service! We helped this lady in our ward named loida move her stuff from her Piso. And let me tell ya, she had a ton of stuff. I have never been so sweaty before in my life! Then we went back and painted and clean a few days later. That was fun, and I ruined my favorite shorts. But I'm probably still gonna wear them like that. Then we taught the noche de hogar on Thursday. We bought some masking tape and made a big V shape on the ground. Then we challenged everybody to try to walk keeping both feet on both of the lines. No one could do it but I definitely got some funny videos of them trying. I think there was only one pair of split pants so... Success! We talked about how we can't follow two roads, so to speak. We must choose one or the other. But when we choose wrong, because of Jesus Christ we can REPENT and turn around and walk back. We can have a fresh start; A clean slate. It was cool. Then we played a very heated game of signs. I totally never had to be in the middle, so... ya know. Well we set up lots of good lessons for this next week. Man it's crazy! I got what is called in mission lingo, "The death letter." Which mean that I will be going home in 5 months or 3 transfers. I just feel like the time is passing so quickly and no matter how much I try to slow it down, it just keeps speeding up. I have officially been out for 13 months. Crae crae! And whats worse is that August just started and now it's on the down hill slope, and then it will be next transfer and I will only have 2 transfers left. Oh my goodness. Well I just want to let y'all know that I love you tons and that I really appreciate all that you do for me! I hope that you all have a great week, and that you stay safe. Okay?

Transfer 9 Week 1
New Companion= Hermana Storheim

Okay..

MIRACLES!

So this week has been really awesome. So my companion is hermana Storheim, from Grand Junction, Colorado! She is tall and blonde, and very Norwegian looking. So it's a good on the streets. I mean it's a lot with just one blonde, but now two? It's a "locura."  Well I have had a great week, and something that I have been thinking a lot about is: Doing all that you can do. Because I feel like it's easy to do the minimum in anything but, to all that you do to the best of your ability and with your whole heart, is much harder. That is why often times, the things that we like to do, we do well because it's important to us, so we dedicate our time, love, and our whole heart to do it well. But if something is not that important to us, will we do it with that same devotion to detail, and wholeness of heart? Probably not.

There is a scripture that I have been pondering a lot lately that stalks a little about salvation, and how we can be saved. Talk about something that should be close to our hearts and in our every thought. This is a question of eternal importance. How can we be saved; What do we have to do to be saved?

23 For we labor diligently to write, to persuade our children, and also our brethren, to believe in Christ, and to be reconciled to God; for we know that it is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do.

2 Nefi 25: 23....

It is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do. But what does that mean?
What is grace? What is all we can do?

Well grace means:
The enabling power from God that allows men and women to obtain blessings in this life and to gain eternal life and exaltation after they have exercised faith, repented, and given their best effort to keep the commandments. Such divine help or strength is given through the mercy and love of God. Every mortal person needs divine grace because of Adam’s Fall and also because of man’s weaknesses. (Pretty awesome...)

Then, All that we can do: When we try our hardest to keep the commandments, as well as live the gospel of Jesus, which is: faith, repentance, baptism, removing the gift of the holy ghost, and enduring to the end...

So if we do these things to the best of our ability and with our whole hearts then we will have the peaceful assurance that we are saved.

Pretty cool. But the hard thing is doing all that you can do. I know that there are definitely times when I don't do ALL that I can do. But the scripture gives me hope that as I try my best the Lord will bless my efforts and help me along the way.

Also I wanted to tell y'all about two really amazing MIRACLES that I saw this week.

So the first miracle was on the guagua... So we had spent the whole day out teaching and knocking doors when we were finally on our way home. We had go on the bus, and it was packed. The bus was seriously max capacity, and it was hot because of all the people. So I was standing near the front and my companion was with a member who came with us near the middle. As I was standing in the front I felt really prompted to talk to this lady who was sitting down to the right of me. I kind of shrugged it off, and just kept thinking about how hot it was, and what I was gonna eat when I got home, and a bunch of stuff. The bus was packed, I was tired, and I didn't feel like talking to anybody. I felt a little prompting once again the talk to her. So I gave in and asked her about her shoes. Then within 2 minutes of talking, and me telling her about why I'm here, and what I'm doing, she stops me and says, " so your a missionary, right?" I tell her yes and then she goes on to tell me that she would like me to come to her house and share our beliefs with her, and then she gives her address and number. It was the weirdest thing. That doesn't happen. Not unless the Lord had a hand in it. It was amazing and a big MIRACLES for me. THEN, when we got off the bus, and were walking home, this guy stopped us and within minutes we had given him a book of Mormon and had set up a time to meet, and talk. The crazy thing is, that both of these people are Spanish. European.... This is the Lord's work and he is in charge of it.

Well that was my week. My companion is amazing, and I love all of y'all and am super glad to be here. Have a great week, and remember to do all you can! Much love,  Hermana Webster... I really hope to train again soon. Training was such fun, and I would love to do it again! I love being a missionary!
TRANSFER 8 WEEK 6

Well. This transfer has gone by so quickly. I have loved being with hermana Maza. She is an awesome person and I love her tons. This last week flew by. We did so much stuff. And there wasn't anytime to do anything expect work. It was awesome and I loved it.

Well just a summary of the week:

Hermana Maza had a panic attack so we went to the hospital in the middle of the night and were there for a few hours. So the next day she was okay so we went out and had a few appointments and found some really awesome people.

Then we made some bookmarks, and bracelets. Okay so this sounds a little lame, but there are a lot of girls in the dance academy that have taken the lessons and want to get baptized but can't because their parents won't let them. They are so strong and faithful, but they need some support and love so with them in mind we made bracelets and this really cool bookmarks with flowers that we picked from the street and gave it to them. These girls are seriously amazing. They have a scripture reading group where they read together everyday. They even give the girls that are members their tithing so that they can pay it. Can you believe that? They are amazing.

Then we helped this lady named Patricia move. She is sups cool, and from argentina! So she told us that she was moving iiut of her piso because the people that lived there, "Need Jesus." So we helped her get all of her stuff, and then called a taxi, but we didn't fit as well as a suitcase a chair. So we told her that we would take it to the church and that she could meet us there, later because there was going to be a baptism. So I had the chair and hermana maza had the suitcase and we tried to take the guagua to go to the church, but the hhus driver said no and kicked us off. Then we decided to walk until hermana maza got tired and then we took a taxi. So we stop and ask the taxi driver if he accepts card and then sees the chair, and almost doesn't let us get it. The chair has some bad voodoo I guess. Then we made it to the church. So the elders had asked us the day before to sing a musical number for the baptism. We had no time to practice before but then got there about 30 minutes before the baptism and practice one song and then decide to do something diffrent with out practicing. So then we had to musical  number and it was fine. MARLON got baptized! It was awesome. Patricia didn't come. Then that whole night Hermana Maza was up packing, I mean she didn't got to sleep until 6 in the morning. Then on Sunday, we went to church and Then I came to Telde, and she went to the airport.

SO your probably wondering what is happening with me? Well I am staying here and I will be companions with hermana Storheim! She is from the same group as hermana Jarman! So I am really excited. I know that the Lord it good, and that he will bless us. I know that this transfer is going to be awesome!

So I was reading an awesome conference talk from April of 2017, called:
To the friends and investagstors of the church. I invite you all to read it.

Last, Repenting
The final experience I’d like to share is about repentance. After I had finished taking all the missionary lessons, I was still not convinced I needed to change anything in my life. It was Elder Cutler, a young, confident missionary with limited Spanish, who one day said, “Joaquin, let’s read together Alma 42, and we will include your name as we read it.”
I thought it was silly, but I did as Elder Cutler asked and read in verse 1: “And now, my son [Joaquin], I perceive there is somewhat more which doth worry your mind, which ye cannot understand.” Oh! The book was speaking to me.
And we read in verse 2: “Now behold, my son [Joaquin], I will explain this thing unto thee,” and then the Fall of Adam was described.
And then in verse 4: “And thus we see, that there was a time granted unto [Joaquin] to repent.”
We continued reading slowly, verse by verse, until we reached the last three verses. Then I was struck by a powerful force. The book spoke directly to me, and I started to cry as I read, “And now, [Joaquin,] my son, I desire that ye should let these things trouble you no more, and only let your sins trouble you, with that trouble which shall bring you … unto repentance” (verse 29).
I realize now that I had expected to receive revelation without paying the price. Until then I had never truly spoken to God, and the idea of speaking to someone who wasn’t present seemed foolish. I had to humble myself and do what I was being asked to do even if, in my worldly mind, it sounded silly.
That day I opened my heart to the Spirit, desired to repent, and wanted to be baptized! Before that moment, I had thought of repentance as something negative, associated only with sin and wrongdoing, but suddenly I saw it in a different light—as something positive that cleared the path to growth and happiness.
Elder Cutler is here today, and I want to thank him for opening my eyes. Every decision I have made in my life since then has been influenced by that moment when I humbled myself and prayed for forgiveness, and the Atonement of Jesus Christ on my behalf became part of my life.
So the last lesson, in one statement: experience repentance; nothing draws you closer to the Lord Jesus Christ than a desire to change.

REPENT! Be good, and you will be happy. Not a fleeting happiness that you can find in the bottom of a drink, or at the end of a lighter, but a true, lasting peace and joy that comes from knowing that you are loved, you have a great worth and potential, and that you have a plan later out for you to have success in this life and in the next.

I love you all and I hope that you can all experience this change of heart, and find this lasting peace that only living the gospel of Jesus Christ can bring. Love you!
